Valley Family

The following series of 8 old photographs show what it was like in the valley at the turn of the last century. A family had bought a small piece of land and had erected a small dwelling. They pose for the camera, proud owners of a little piece of Biggin Hill. Nothing is known about the family or when the photos were actually taken.

This photo shows the owner (I assume) with the valley stretched out behind him. Sunningvale Avenue comes in from the left then turns to the left away from us at a point where Melody Road joins.

The building was nothing more than a corrugated iron shed with a veranda. A level piece of ground was dug out of the side of the valley. Mount Pleasant can be seen in the distance.

A shot looking down from the plot into the valley with Kings Road cutting accross and Melody road, with the old car, in the background.

This photo is looking up the valley along Kings Road (the white track to the left of the lady) towards Swievelands. Their plot was probably along what is now  Highfield Road.

The 2 photos following are part of the set but were not taken at the same location. Indeed, I don't even know if they were taken in Biggin Hill. Although in the first photo they are wearing the same clothes. So is this a location in the valley that I am not aware of? The last photo is an earlier shot as the children are younger.
