Tin Tabernacle service

These photos were sent to me by Mary Wilkinson. They show a service in the original St. Mark's church, the 'Tin Tabernacle', taken around 1954/5. The church was erected in the early 1920's and served as a place of worship until the new St. Mark's, the Moving Church, was Consecrated in 1959.

The first picture shows the Rev. Vivian Symons leading the choir (front row on the right). Can you name anyone else?

27/02/10: Cicely Ballam (nee Payne) has kindly supplied some names for the photo:

Male choristers side - Mr Carey (lay reader) - John Chinn (lived in Church Road - appeared in 'The Moving Church') - David Oades (lived up by Gee's Garage - a relative new comer, who married Betty Crittle - see wedding photo in 'The Moving Church") - Mr Palmer who lived in Church Road.

The second picture shows part of the congregation. Mary Wilkinson is sitting in the second row, second from the left. Do you know anyone else in this photo??

27/02/10: Once again Cicely has come up trumps (almost):

Congregation - 2nd row - Anne Boaz (daughter of Nancy Lamb of The Bon Bon), Mary Sparkes (Wilkinson) , Audrey Payne, Mrs Richard Payne (nee Sis Wicking - sister of the well known Mrs Winnie Paine of Norheads Lane).

3rd row - could be Coral Meehan - can't give a name to the lady by the stove.

Back row - Mrs Palmer (husband in previous photo) - think next to her is Mrs Symons - the verger at the back was Frank Whelan.

The front row also gives me a problem, although the faces are familiar, if the girl is Jenny Grover's younger sister (lived next to the Post Office) it could be her mother in the middle (they were relative new comers, from Bromley. Mary, Anne and I were at the same school as Jennifer before they moved out to BH)

Re Congregation - The front row from right to left - that is Mary Grover, then her mother, Mrs. Grover, and then her Mother`s mother - but do not know her name.
