South Street 2

The old shop on the end of 'Transvaal Cottages' (so called because they were built at the time of the Boar War) has been through many changes. It has been a sweet shop, antique shop, general stores, garden ornaments shop and now a window and roofing firm. The photo shows Mr. and Mrs. Wade, the owners, in 1943. The photo is actually two stuck together - hence the dog appears twice!

The barn in the background was the 'Transvaal Tea Rooms'. A fraction of the foundations is all that remains. 'Transvaal Bungalow', which stood just to the right of this picture, was demolished and a new bungalow built in the early 80's.
