It was probably just a track that had been worn by walkers who wanted to look at the view of the valley but over the years it has developed into a very sought after location. The gable roofed house half way down on the right in this 1930's photograph is 'Summerdon' and can still be seen today although the view across the valley has changed beyond recognition.
