The Memorial Library

This page is different to the rest in as much as both photographs should be classed as Then pictures. The Memorial Library has been removed and in it's place is being built a new library and swimming pool. I will update this page once it's open.

The old building that stood on the site, on the corner of Church Road and Main Road, originally came from Detling airfield. It burnt down leaving the site vacant for many years until the Council bought it for the Memorial Library which was built in 1981 to commemorate the people from Biggin Hill who had lost their lives during the second world war.

The photograph shows the summer fate, or carnival depending on which sign you read, in 1962.

May 2010. the library is now complete with the finishing touches being made to the pool. And very nice it all looks too.
