You never know which direction investigations will take you whilst researching for this website. When I was in Downe taking the 'Now' photo for Abbott's Bakery 3, I met Peter Davies who, like me, is a local historian. I told him what I was doing and soon after he sent me the wonderful second photo below. He had been told that it showed the owner of the four wheeled vehicle (that can also be seen in the first photo), one of the Abbott brothers called Julyan.

I showed Edwina this photo and she says it wasn't 'Julyan' but her great uncle Charles and his wife Alice Julie Allen (the names had got mixed up over time). Edwina was thrilled to see the photo of Charles. It was taken on the road outside Farthing Street Farm near Downe village but as far as she knows there is no family connection to the farm.

I wonder where my investigations will lead next on this subject?
