Abbott's Bakery 3 (Downe Post Office)

Abbott's Bakery in Biggin Hill was so successful that it wasn't long before another branch opened up, this one in the nearby village of Downe. Edwina's Great Uncles, Charles and William, owned this Post Office. Note the accommodation for cyclists next door. It wasn't just Biggin Hill that was popular with cyclists.

The date of this photo is not known but the second photo is dated 1914. I'm not sure if the Post Office part of the building was added to accommodate it or whether it was a house before hand.

This shows the same property shortly before it was re-developed. The Post Office had by then extended into the house next door and a door was knocked into the front between the windows.

The Post Office was to move further down the road and the building was to be returned to housing.

This photo shows the house (after the re-development in 2007) in march 2011. It has been completely re-built but along the same lines as the original building (except, of course, for the picture window).
